Spring Love Songs

This poem is self-explanatory, and appropriate for this time of year.

Spring Love Songs

The thrumming of the frogs attracting

mates in the countryside: a balm to winter-

                                                      weary souls.

In this cityscape my ear catches unfamiliar

humming. An early batch of cicadas?

For years the run-off pond behind

our condo had been wronged until it

scored the label of a small lake.

An eco-friendly outsider would now

tend to it. Frogs once made this waterhole

                                                       home.

Their country cousins consider anything

a predator, quiet their partying when I pass.

"Townie" frolickers show no inhibitions,

whooping it up despite my nearby footfalls.

Part of a city's overflow now a restored abode

                        for amphibians and their tunes.

An urban indicator of spring.
